A few weeks ago I re-watched his seemingly forgotten masterpiece HUD (1963) and would implore anyone who hasn't seen it to do so. While other Newman films have been more remarked upon in recent days, this is one which, for my money, gets short shrift. A late period black and white film gorgeously shot in Texas cattle country, it features Newman in the familiar role of the amoral loner with a terrific supporting cast and great dialog. A few weeks ago I re-watched his seemingly forgotten masterpiece HUD (1963) and would implore anyone who hasn't seen it to do so. While other Newman films have been more remarked upon in recent days, this is one which, for my money, gets short shrift.
